Mobile Money in Cameroon: over 32,000 billion CFA francs moved in 2025
According to the 2025 report of Cameroon's National Economic and Financial Committee, people moved 32,667 billion CFA francs through Orange Money and MTN MoMo in 2025, 13.7% more than in 2024.
The money customers keep on their Mobile Money accounts is held in banks: 473 billion CFA francs at the end of 2025 for both operators. These deposits cover more than the customers' money, at 119% for Orange Money and 122% for MTN MoMo. The operators also earned 21.5 billion CFA francs in interest on these sums.

The money on your Mobile Money account is backed by funds in banks, but CEMAC rules forbid it from earning you interest: to save, you need a real savings account.
